Sept. 28, 2007 -- More than 320 fifth grade students from five area schools are expected Wednesday, Oct. 3, 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m., for the 2007 Farm and Home Safety Expo at the Craighead County Fairgrounds. The youngsters are coming from the following schools: Brookland Middle, Blessed Sacrament, Cross County Intermediate, Crowley’s Ridge Academy, and Westside Middle. In order to keep the demonstrations on schedule and to move the children safely from station to station, no more reservations can be accepted for this year. In addition to more than 25 collegiate level students volunteering from the College of Agriculture during the event, more than 80 Future Farmers of America officers from the following high school FFA chapters are also coming to serve as group leaders, help cook the meals, and assist as needed: Brookland, Bay, Weiner, Piggott, Westside, Cross County, Walnut Ridge, Buffalo Island Central, Lonoke, Marmaduke, and Valley View. "Our sponsors this year have really come through, both financially as well as with in-kind contributions of equipment use, teaching and other support," commented Dr. Kevin Humphrey, director of agriculture education in the College of Agriculture at ASU. The sponsors this year are Jonesboro Jaycees, NEA Fair Board, E.
