Oct. 26, 2009 --
The Strong-Turner Alumni Chapter
of the Arkansas State University Alumni Association has selected Janet

the
2009 Linual Cameron Memorial Scholarship. On Saturday, October 24, Ms.
Jamison was recognized at a reception in her honor in the Student
Union’s Mockingbird Room at Arkansas State University-Jonesboro. Her
parents are Paul and Gaynell Jamison of Monticello, Arkansas.
The scholarship, valued at $2,000 for the academic year, recognizes
outstanding upper level African-American students who have demonstrated
leadership potential, academic achievement and excellent citizenship.
Jamison, a 2007 graduate of Monticello High School, is a junior majoring
in Biology with a pre-professional emphasis in Chemistry at Arkansas
State University. She is a member of the Honors College Association,
Pre-Pharmacy Club, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Sigma Alpha
Lambda National Leadership and Honors Organization, Delta Epsilon Iota
Academic Honor Society, National Society of Leadership and Success, and
Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. Ms Jamison has received the following
awards during her time at Arkansas State University: Chancellor’s List,
Strong-Turner Freshman Achievement Award, Freshman Writing Award
Nominee, and Strong-Turner 3.0 Club. She will graduate from Arkansas
State University in May 2011. After graduation, she plans to either
attend Pharmacy School or pursue a career in biomedical research.
The Linual Cameron Memorial Scholarship is provided through an endowment
established by the Strong-Turner Alumni Chapter in memory of Linual
Cameron, who was vice president of finance at Arkansas State University
for 24 years. The chapter set up the endowment to recognize Cameron as a
strong supporter of African-American students at ASU, particularly those
who demonstrated strong academic achievement and leadership potential.
