April 13, 2010 -- A television special, “Red Wolves Rugby,” recognizing Arkansas State University’s rugby team’s quest for a national championship, will air Wednesday-Friday, April 14-16, at 6 p.m. on ASU-TV, Suddenlink, Channel 18.

The show, produced by Jeffrey Sheppard, a senior radio-television major, features ASU head rugby coach Matt Huckaby and program host Rich Carvell, retired assistant professor of radio-television. It follows Arkansas State’s progress to reach the Sweet 16 of the Division 1 USA Rugby Tournament playoffs. The tournament is slated for Friday-Sunday, April 16-18, at the University of California-Santa Barbara.

The program provides background on the game of rugby and the history of the Red Wolf rugby program. There is also a review of ASU’s 49-17 victory over Dartmouth March 23 and a preview of the round of 16 teams playing in California April 16-18.

ASU, 6-1 overall, will play St. Mary’s of Moraga, Calif., Saturday, April 17, at 3 p.m. (Central), in Harder Stadium in the first round.  The winner will advance to play San Diego State or Bowling Green.

All pool winners will advance to the championship Final Four to be played at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif., Friday-Saturday, April 30-May 1.
