Local young scientists to compete
in NE Arkansas Regional Science Fair    
   

March 6, 2007 -- The Northeast Arkansas Regional Science Fair (NEARSF) will be held Friday and Saturday, March 9-10, in the Arkansas State University Student Union. Individual students and teams (Grades 7-12) will be recognized for outstanding science fair projects in science, math, and engineering.

Exhibit set-up will by Friday morning from 8:45 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Student Union Centennial Hall. A check-in table will be set up in the Student Union center court.

Judging will occur from 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and fair exhibits will be open to the public Friday evening from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Dr. Lynita Cooksey, associate vice chancellor for academic affairs, will conduct the awards ceremony Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Student Union Auditorium.

The top two winners of the NEARSF will qualify to compete in the 2007 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) in Albuquerque, N.M., May 13-19. Travel, housing and registration expenses to the Intel ISEF for the two students and their sponsoring teachers will be paid for by the NEARSF.

NEARSF is supported by the Northeast Arkansas Science Teachers’ Association, Arkansas State University College of Sciences and Mathematics, and private monetary donations provided by businesses, charitable organizations, and members of the northeast Arkansas community.
