Scholarship cadets are doing well at ASU; will receive commission upon graduation

November 19, 2010 -- Nine Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) scholarship recipients joined Arkansas State University’s Red Wolf battalion during the fall semester.   These cadets will attend four years of leadership training while earning a bachelor’s degree through ASU. Upon graduation, cadets will receive a commission as an officer in one of three Army components--Active Army, Army National Guard or United States Army Reserve.

The Department of Military Science and Leadership at Arkansas State University awarded ROTC scholarships to the following Arkansas students. They are Michael L. Sawyer of Monticello, a 2010 graduate of Monticello High School who is currently seeking a degree in Business Administration.  Sawyer is the son of Sara and Steve Hartness.

William T. Winn of Jonesboro is a 2010 graduate of Jonesboro High School and is pursuing a degree in Exercise Science.  He is the son of Perry Winn and Ronda Ann Valero. Kyle W. Haynes of West Helena is a 2010 graduate of Marvell Academy.  He is pursuing a degree in Social Work.  Haynes is the son of Shelley Haynes of West Helena.

Caleb S. Cooper of Jonesboro is a Criminology major and a 2010 graduate of Brookland High School.  Cooper is the son of Rick and Dana Cooper. Howard D. Watts of Poplar Bluff, Mo., is a 2010 graduate of Poplar Bluff High School.  He is currently seeking a degree in Civil Engineering.  Watts is the son of Greg and Sharon Davis.

Cordin J. Porterfield of Jonesboro is a 2010 graduate of Valley View High School.  He is seeking a degree in Civil Engineering.  Porterfield is the son of Jim and Robin Porterfield.  William S. Mullin of Paragould is a 2010 graduate of Brookland High School.  He is pursuing a degree in Criminology.  He is the son of Tonya Davis.

Victoria A. Carle of Jonesboro is Chemistry major and a 2010 graduate of Valley View High School.  Carle is the daughter of Keith and Donna Carle. Luke A. Hansen of Jonesboro is currently a sophomore at ASU.  He is seeking a degree in Psychology.  He is the son of Charles and Monica Hansen.
