Postal services for ASU-Jonesboro

Postal services for the ASU-Jonesboro campus very likely will be changing later this year.  The Division of Finance and Administration is using this means to notify the campus about possible changes in order to assist everyone with planning and ordering of printed materials, such as letterhead, envelopes and promotional literature.

The Reng Student Services Center is being renovated to provide space for a number of student services, including a postal facility.  The U.S. Postal Service’s lease for the current facility on Caraway Road expires later this year, and the campus master plan calls for that facility to be razed to make room for construction of a liberal arts building.

The U. S. Postal Service has operated a post office on the Jonesboro campus for decades.  In an effort to continue that relationship, ASU representatives have attempted several times over the past five years to negotiate a new agreement with USPS for services in the Reng Student Services Center.  However, USPS has not responded to the most recent attempt to negotiate such a lease.

As a result, ASU has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) from private contractors or USPS to submit proposals for offering mail services in the new facility.  These proposals are due Tuesday, April 18. One of two outcomes will result:

1. If the USPS formally responds with a proposal and commits to continue service, campus addresses will not change.

2. If a private mail services provider responds favorably and an agreement is reached, campus postal addresses will change.  The contractor will be asked to maintain the same box numbers, but the address format will change to private mail box (PMB) prefix and Jonesboro as the city.  For instance, P.O. Box 1990, State University, AR might become PMB 1990, Jonesboro, AR.  The zip code would probably change, also.

The ASU Division of Finance and Administration is providing this information as early as possible to enable various university units to start planning accordingly.  Those ordering materials bearing a mailing address probably should limit quantities to a six-month supply.

In the meantime, comments or questions should be directed to Jo LunBeck, Director of Administration, at 972-2306, or to Jennus Burton, Vice President for Finance and Administration, at 972-3303.
