Department of Music to present
Organ Dedication Concert

October 26, 2006 - The Department of Music at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro will present t, he Organ Dedication Concert featuring Nicholas Bowden on Sunday, Nov. 5, at 3 p.m. in Fowler Center, Riceland Hall. This concert is the dedication of the new Allen organ that was donated by Darrell and Charlotte Cooper, ASU alumni.

The concert will include “Toccata” by John Weaver, “Toccata in F” by Johann Sebastian Bach, “Variations on O laufet, ihr Hirten” by Max Drischner, “Gabriel’s Oboe” from “The Mission” by Ennio Morricone, “Finale from Symphony No. 1” by Louis Vierne, “Trumpet Tune” by David German, “Hail to the Brightness” by Emma Lou Deimer, “Come Thou Fount” by Diane Bish, “Adagio from Suite for organ” by William Noll, and “Toccata from Symphony No. 5” by Charles-Marie Widor.

The concert also will include selections from the ASU Concert Choir under the direction of Dr. Dale Miller, director of choral activities.

Nicholas Bowden, organist, enjoys a national reputation as a church musician and entertainer. His energetic performances coupled with a unique sense of humor bring a fresh light to the world of organ music.

Bowden is senior organist at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, a position he has held since 1993. Bowden has performed in venues across the United States and in Europe as both organ soloist and conductor. He has appeared on a number of television specials over the years from local Atlanta stations to Diane Bish’s The Joy of Music, which is broadcast the world over. He can be seen each week on the nationally televised broadcasts of Peachtree Presbyterian Church.

The organist attended Mercer University in Macon, Ga., and subsequently became associate organist at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where he served until 1991.

Bowden travels extensively and has a great love of politics and architecture, but his true passion has been and remains, people.
