April 29, 2005 -- The College of Nursing and Health Professions at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro recognized its most outstanding graduating students during its annual Convocation of Scholars honors program, according to Dr. Susan Hanrahan, dean of the college. The students were selected by faculty in the individual degree programs to receive the award for outstanding achievement and service to their respective departments. Award winners in the Department of Health Professions and their respective degree programs were: Brian Smelzer of Dexter, Mo., BS, imaging specialist; Lauren Ferrell of Portageville, Mo., BS, sonography; Joanne Huck of Poplar Bluff, Mo., AAS, radiologic technology; DeeAnn Thompson of Wynne and Jamie Thomas of Bay, BS, radiation therapy; Sarah Saunders of Malvern and Ginger Wood of Hickory Ridge (tie), BS, communication disorders; Elizabeth Smith of Jonesboro, MCD, communication disorders; Melanee Hubble of Jonesboro, AAS, physical therapist assistant; and Stacy E. Gibson of Wynne, BS, clinical laboratory science; David Skaggs of Jonesboro, AS, applied science in clinical laboratory technology; Gina Colburn of Jonesboro, BS, social work. Award winners in the Department of Nursing were: Billie Van Winkle of Imboden, BS, nursing; Trienke Shrable of Mountain Home, AAS, nursing, ASU-Jonesboro; Tracey Bollinger-Fisher of Jonesboro, MS, nursing, adult health track; Lisa Shefelton of Jonesboro, MS, nursing, family nurse practitioner track; and Virginia Baltz of Pocahontas, MS, nursing, nurse anesthesia track.
