Fourth annual New Ground Classic
Golf Tournament benefits College of Agriculture
March 6, 2007 -- The
Arkansas State University College of Agriculture announces the 4th
annual New Ground Classic Golf Tournament, slated for Tuesday, April 24,
at Sage Meadows Golf Course in Jonesboro.
The tournament, a four-person scramble, is a major fundraiser for the
students of the ASU College of Agriculture and is organized by Arkansas
Farm Bureau, a key sponsor of the event.
“All proceeds go to the college’s Discretionary Fund and are used to
support student clubs, student travel, and other outside-the-classroom
learning experiences to benefit agriculture students,” said Dr. Greg
Phillips, dean of the Colleges of Agriculture, Engineering, and Sciences
and Mathematics. Funds raised will support nine student organizations,
student travel on educational field trips and to professional meetings,
the college’s student ambassadors, enhancement of teaching facilities,
and curriculum enhancements.
The College seeks corporate sponsors for each of the 18 holes on the
course at three varying levels of sponsorship. The Gold Level may be
purchased for $500, the Silver Level for $250, and the Bronze Level for
$100. Silver and Bronze levels of sponsorship allow businesses to be
recognized on printed material or course signage, while Gold Level
sponsors will receive recognition on both printed material and course
signage. Sponsors will also be acknowledged by signs posted at the
tournament’s head table and in the Agriculture Lobby for the remainder
of the year.
The field is limited to 36 teams of four golfers, and the registration
fee for the tournament is $100 per individual or $400 for each team. The
deadline for corporate sponsorship registration for the benefit, as well
as deadline for registration as a tournament team, is April 17. Early
registration is encouraged. Registration forms are available via the
College of Agriculture’s webpage,
http://agri.astate.edu.
Prizes for the winning teams will be awarded, and hole-in-one and
closest-to-the-hole prizes will also be awarded.

Agriculture at (870) 972-2085 or e-mail
