Aug. 10, 2006 -- Arkansas State University in Jonesboro will host the final New Student Orientation for the academic year Friday, Aug. 18, announced Greg Thornburg, dean of enrollment services.

Orientation provides a much needed opportunity for new students to meet with their academic advisers, register for classes and learn the "ins and outs" of the campus.

Representatives will be on hand from financial aid, the University Bookstore, residence life and other campus departments. In addition, currently enrolled students will be available for questions.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and continues until 8:30 a.m. in the new Student Union. Welcoming and introduction begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by a "Tribal Leader Session" for students and "Discover ASU" for parents at 10 a.m.

Special interest sessions are held later in the morning, followed by a lunch. The afternoon features a concentrated time for meeting with academic advisers.

Parking is reserved for those attending New Student Orientation in the lot behind the International Student Center on the corner of Aggie Road and University Loop West. Visitor parking also will be available in the North Parking Deck.

Classes for the fall semester begin on Monday, Aug. 21.
