ASU Multicultural Week set
for March 28 - 30
March 13, 2006 -- With the theme “Different
Perspectives: Diverse Minds Create Better Solutions,” Multicultural Week
2006 will be Tuesday, March 28, through Thursday, March 30, on the
campus of Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.
Numerous events and activities are planned throughout the week, with the
highlight being tea at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, with Dr. Joycelyn Elders, former U.S. Surgeon General.
The events kick off on Tuesday with a noon - 2 p.m. multicultural
celebration in Heritage Plaza on the east side of the Student Union.
Other events are as follows:
Tuesday, March 28:
noon – 2 p.m., Multicultural Celebration, Heritage Plaza (east side of
Student Union);
6 p.m., Reception, Heritage Plaza Lounge;
7 p.m. , Cultural Night, Student Union Auditorium
Wednesday, March 29:
9 a.m., “Speaking of Women’s Health” with Lisa Shefelton, APN, director
of Student Health Center, Mockingbird Room, Student Union;
10 a.m., “Women and Spirituality” with Dr. Patricia Glascock, associate
director of Counseling Center, Pine Tree Room, Student Union;
1 p.m., “Financial Empowerment” with Antionette Green, founder/CEO of
GREENAnt Consulting, Mockingbird Room, Student Union;
2 p.m., “Women & Literature” with Carmen Williams, instructor of English
and Philosophy discussing literary work "Their Eyes Were Watching God"
by Zora Neale Hurston, Pine Tree Room, Student Union;
3 p.m., “Tea” with Dr. Joycelyn Elders, former U.S. Surgeon General,
Heritage Plaza Lounge;
5 p.m., Movie: “Memoirs of a Geisha,” Student Union Auditorium;
7 p.m., Indian Movie: “Rang De Basanti,” Student Union Auditorium;
9 p.m., Movie: “Memoirs of a Geisha,” Student Union Auditorium;
Thursday, March 30:
11 a.m. – 4 p.m., Games Live Tour, Heritage Plaza (east side of Student
Union), sponsored by Student Activities Board;
5 - 6:30 p.m., International Food Festival, Heritage Plaza (east side of
Student Union);
Multicultural Week, free and open to the public, is sponsored by the
International Student Association, Student Activities Board, and the
Office of Multicultural Affairs. For more details, contact the Tribal
