Morgan Stanley's investments director
to speak for College of Business series

The annual Distinguished Speakers Series of the Arkansas State University College of Business will feature one of the country's top investment advisors.

Joseph J. McAlinden (click to access high resolution version)Joseph J. McAlinden (Mac-uh-len-dun) is managing director and global chief investments officer for Morgan Stanley Investment Management.

On Thursday, March 17, McAlinden will present "From Doo Wop to Hip Hop," during which he takes a decade-by-decade look at market returns and inflation over the last 50 years -- from "Doo-Wop" all the way to "Hip-Hop."

Using history as a guide, he then explores the economic environment of the first decade of the 21st century, including money supply, monetary policy, and the "energy enigma." He concludes with an overview of his forecast for market returns over the balance of the decade, paying special attention to the potentially important role that dividends could play in total returns.

Admission is free to his 7:15 p.m. presentation in the Fowler Center at ASU, but seating is limited.  McAlinden also will be guest of honor at a 6:30 p.m. public reception, preceding his presentation.

Those wishing to make reservations should contact Lynn Lovett at Morgan Stanley in Jonesboro, 972-0002.

McAlinden joined Dean Witter InterCapital as senior investment strategist in 1995 and soon became the new chief investment officer for that company, which is now Morgan Stanley Investment Management.

His responsibilities include directing the daily activities and all related duties of the investment department, as well as developing and articulating Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Advisors' investment policy and outlook.

He also is a member of the board of directors of Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Trust Co.

Drawing on his experience from a long career around Wall Street, McAlinden often provides expert commentary for financial news outlets.  He has appeared numerous times on CNN's "Moneyline" and "Street Sweep," CNBC's "Market Wrap" and "Today's Business," as well as PBS's "Nightly Business Report."

A chartered financial analyst (CFA), McAlinden graduated from Rutgers University with a bachelor of arts degree in economics.

Additional information about the College of Business and the Distinguished Speakers Series is available through the College of Business Dean's Office, (870) 972-3035.
