Linual Cameron, Strong-Turner Alumni Chapter scholarship recipients honored

October 18, 2010  -- Two Arkansas State University students were recently honored as the recipients of the 2010 Linual Cameron Memorial Scholarship and the new Strong-Turner Alumni Chapter Scholarship. The Strong-Turner Alumni Chapter of the Arkansas State University Alumni Association has selected Christin Baker of Edmond, Okla., as the recipient of the Cameron scholarship, while Harry White, Jr., of Jacksonville has been selected as the 2010 recipient of the new Strong-Turner Alumni Chapter Scholarship.

Baker, a senior Biological Sciences/Pre-Med major, and White, a junior International Business major, were recognized at a luncheon in the Hames Room of the Convocation Center at Arkansas State University.

The scholarships, valued at $2,000 and $1000 respectively, recognizes outstanding African-American students who have demonstrated leadership potential, academic achievement and excellent citizenship for the academic year.

The Linual Cameron Memorial Scholarship is provided through an endowment established by the Strong-Turner Alumni Chapter in memory of Linual Cameron, who was vice president of finance at Arkansas State University for 24 years.  The chapter set up the endowment to recognize Cameron as a strong supporter of African-American students at ASU, particularly those who demonstrated strong academic achievement and leadership potential.

The Strong-Turner Alumni Scholarship was established in 2009 and will be given annually to a rising sophomore with a strong academic background and demonstrated leadership capabilities.
