Oct. 10, 2006 -- Performance anxiety specialist Richard Cox will speak Tuesday, Oct. 24, on the campus of Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. His presentation "Managing Your Head and Body So You Can Become a Good Musician" begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Auditorium. It is free and open to the public. The performance is sponsored by the Lecture-Concert Series and the Department of Music. Cox is a specialist in performance anxiety, stage fright and physical problems that affect musicians and anyone else who performs in front of an audience. He is one of the new nationally-known specialists who have worked clinically in the field of performance anxiety. Cox is also the author of "You Can Become a Good Musician: The Psychology of Musical Competence" published by the Colorado School of Professional Psychology Press. His common sense and creative approach is inspirational to beginning and professional players. His seminars tackle one of the fundamental dimensions of successful music performance. Cox speaks on how aspiring musicians need to know that mastering their instruments is only one element of their preparation for music success and how to truly communicate with an audience. The Lecture-Concert Series presents diverse programs to enrich the cultural life of the campus, community, and region.
