Kelsey Hall Golf and Tennis Classic
will benefit memorial scholarship in agriculture
Feb. 22, 2008 --
The
Kelsey Hall Golf and Tennis Classic will be held at RidgePointe Country
Club on Saturday, March 8, to benefit the Kelsey Hall Excellence in
Agriculture Memorial Scholarship at Arkansas State University. The
scholarship is offered to students majoring in Agricultural Business at
ASU.
Kelsey Hall, who died in June 2007, was a farmer and a member of the
Craighead County Farm Bureau. His family was named the 1993 Craighead
County Farm Family of the Year, and Hall himself was named the 2006
Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce Farmer of the Year. Hall was also a former
board member of the Craighead County Co-Op and the Community Leadership
Board of Mercantile Bank. His wife, Stacy Gilmore Hall, is an ASU
alumna, having earned both the bachelor of science and the bachelor of
science in education degrees, and their daughter Evan Hall and son Sam
Hall are both enrolled as current students at ASU.
The tournament portion of the event will be limited to the first 96
entrants for tennis and the first 96 entrants for golf. Anyone
interested in entering both the golf and tennis categories of the
tournament will be able to do so. The golf tournament will consist of an
18-hole scramble, and tee-off is at 9 a.m. The tennis tournament will
consist of doubles in a team format, and the tournament starts at 5 p.m.
In addition to the golf and tennis tournaments, a social begins at 5
p.m. in the 19th Hole, with food and drinks. The entry fee of
$150 includes entry fees for both the golf and tennis categories of the
tournament. The fee also includes admission to the social for one
person, as well as an official Kelsey Hall Tennis and Golf Classic
t-shirt. Admission to the social is $75 per person, and includes great
food and drinks.
Since tournament participation is limited to the first 96 entrants in
both categories, fees and reply cards must be submitted by March 1. For
more information, and to obtain entry forms and reply cards, contact
Lindsay Burnett, development officer, Arkansas State University Office
of Development, at (870) 972-2986 or via e-mail at lburnett@astate.edu.
