KASU presents 'The Story' with Dick Gordon, starting July 6

June 30, 2009 -- The Story brings the news home through first-person accounts. The live weekday program is passionate, personal, immediate, and relevant to listeners, focusing on the news where it changes our lives, causes us to stop and re-think, inspires us.

Dick Gordon is a trusted guide to first-person accounts, expert guests and ideas that provide context and analysis. The Story brings together ordinary and extraordinary people who can provide perspective on the news and inspire conversation and understanding:

· When the Beltway is abuzz with exposés of prisoner torture, The Story talks with a man who tells how torture by police made his politics more radical, and with a government agent confronted with validating evidence obtained from uncooperative witnesses.

· When the morning news reports on the Supreme Court nominee's confirmation, The Story talks to 20-somethings, 60-somethings and teen parents about their changing views on the right to choose.

· When the Senate votes on education reform, The Story goes to school to hear what reform will mean to teachers and students, and sits in on a class with author and teacher Frank McCourt to hear how he inspires students.

Each program encourages listeners to share their stories on the program's topics, to be featured later in the week. The program is not a call-in, but will select from the best listener stories to amplify listeners' understanding of significant events.

Dick Gordon, former host of The Connection, is well-known as a seasoned journalist, experienced in international and domestic reporting. He was a war correspondent and back-up host for the CBC's This Morning, the national current affairs radio program. An award winning journalist, he has also served as a Parliamentary reporter, Moscow correspondent and South Asia correspondent for both radio and television.
