Judd Hill Center, home of ASU Foundation,
to be dedicated Friday, Oct. 27

Oct. 13, 2006 -- The dedication of Judd Hill Center, home of the Arkansas State University Foundation, Inc., will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 27, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new facility. ASU President Les Wyatt, ASU Foundation President/CEO Steve Owens and ASU Foundation Board Chair Marilyn Hummelstein will also make presentations during the ceremony.

Judd Hill Center is located on U Street, north of the blue entrance to the Convocation Center, and east of Cooper Alumni Center. The 6,300 square foot complex houses six formal offices, a gallery, formal meeting and board room, and a catering kitchen. The spaces work together and are suitable for receptions, meetings and conferences.

Space for state-of-the-art technology, an open reception area, storage and public restrooms are also incorporated into the facility’s design. Additionally, a porch at Judd Hill Center’s north facade overlooks the lake that lies south of the ASU pavilion.

Judd Hill Center is a result of the third $1 million gift to the ASU Foundation from the Judd Hill Foundation. In recognition of the gift, the ASU Board of Trustees voted to name the facility Judd Hill Center, home of the ASU Foundation. Trustee Mike Gibson of Osceola, who is also trustee of the Judd Hill Foundation, abstained from the vote.

The Judd Hill Foundation has also presented gifts in support of the Judd Hill Chair in Environmental Biology (1994) and the Judd Hill Chair in Agricultural Biotechnology (2004).

At the groundbreaking in September 2005, Owens noted the foundation’s need for an independent facility because of the organization’s growth, and its expanded operations and staff in support of ASU. He said the new facility allows an opportunity for greater understanding by constituents—faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends—of the value the ASU Foundation adds to the overall mission of the university.

Chartered by the state in 1977, the ASU Foundation is a non-profit corporation created for the primary purpose to receive, solicit, accept, hold and administer private gifts in support of educational programs associated with the Arkansas State University system and its entities. As of June 30, 2006, endowment accounts totaled $27 million.
