ASU holds 69th annual Journalism and Broadcasting Day

Feb. 23, 2007 -- Arkansas State University will host the 69th annual Journalism and Broadcasting Day contests on Saturday, March 3.

Journalism and Broadcasting day will feature 14 individual contests with awards for first, second, and third place winners. The school accumulating the highest number of points for the day will receive the sweepstakes plaque. Plaques will also be awarded to schools that place second, third and fourth in the sweepstakes competition.

The individual contests include news writing, sports writing, editorial writing, feature writing, headline writing, broadcast news writing, web site design, photography, writing radio-television commercials, editorial cartooning, newspaper copy reading, public relations, advertising copy and layout, and radio-television announcing.

Schools may also participate in the newspaper contest by submitting two different issues of their school paper from the 2006-2007 school year. A news video contest will also be held. Schools may submit one sports news video and one news video.

Roy Ockert, vice president of the Arkansas Press Association and editor of the Jonesboro Sun, will present the sweepstakes plaques to the winning schools.

Registration for Journalism and Broadcasting Day will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. An awards ceremony will be held at 2:30 p.m. in the Radio-TV studio of the Communications Building.

Journalism and Broadcasting Day chair is Dr. Joel T. Gambill, chairman of the Department of Journalism.
