College of Humanities and Social Sciences
recognizes top graduating students

April 30, 2007 -- The College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Arkansas State University has named 18 outstanding students as recipients of departmental awards for 2006-07 during the college’s annual honors banquet, according to Dr. Gloria Gibson, dean of the college.

The departmental awards are presented each year during Convocation of Scholars to the graduating student in each degree program who has excelled in scholarship, leadership and service to the department.

Those receiving awards and their respective degree programs were: Emily Sharp of Gassville, Lyndsey Jackson of Haskell and Steven Barker of Salem, BSE, social science; Melanie Myers of Hoxie and Lindsey Sullivan of Pocahontas, BA, political science; Emily Renee Carroll of Jonesboro, BA, criminology; and Megan Hogue of Benton and Sherry Pierce of Corning, BA, sociology.

Others were Calvin Haneline of Paragould, BA, philosophy; Deborah Johnson of Jonesboro, BA, English; Amber Jones of Jonesboro, BSE, English education; Lamar Ferguson of Blytheville, BA, Spanish; Kristin Glass of Taylor, BSE, Spanish education; and Sara Marzewski of Jonesboro, BA, history.

Graduate awards were presented to Traci Burgess of Weiner and Jordan Fike of Jonesboro, MA, history; Cindy Grisham of West Plains, Mo., MA, political science; and Hayk Petrosyan of Yerevan, Republic of Armenia, MPA, public administration.
