Dr. Howard receives appointment to commission on
accreditation of English language programs
July 23, 2009 --
Dr. Dan Howard,
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost at Arkansas State University –
Jonesboro, has received an appointment to the Commission on
Accreditation of English Language Programs (CEA). Dr. Howard, who will
be a public member of CEA, will serve a term from January 2010 through
December 2012.
“I am deeply honored and humbled to have been selected to serve the CEA
commission as a public member,” said Dr. Howard. “I look forward to
serving in this capacity and working closely with other commission
members.”
ASU – Jonesboro Chancellor Robert Potts said, “Dr. Howard has long been
a leader in establishing and operating high-quality ESL (English as a
Second Language) programs. He
will be an excellent public member of the CEA. We are very pleased that
he has been selected for this appointment.”
The Commission on English Language Program Accreditation was founded as
a specialized accrediting agency by English language professionals. Its
purpose is to improve the quality of English language teaching and
administration through established standards. CEA conducts accreditation
reviews of English language programs and institutions both in the United
States and worldwide.
Commissioners are elected by the CEA Constituent Council, which
comprises representatives of accredited programs and institutions. Two
public members, who are not from the field of English language teaching,
are appointed by the Commission. Commission members represent the
broad-based field of teaching English to speakers of other languages and
are committed to quality English language education for international
students.
