ASU to implement electronic portal for
on-campus housing sign-up process

January 7, 2011 -- Arkansas State University’s Department of Residence Life will launch an electronic room selection portal called “astAte Housing Portal.”  All current and prospective students who plan to live on campus, including apartments, during the 2011-12 academic year will utilize the electronic sign-up process to obtain housing.

The “stAte Housing Portal” is an electronic room sign-up process that allows the convenience of selecting a student’s building, room, apartment, quad, suite and roommate(s) based upon eligibility and availability. This step-by-step procedure requires students to enter requested information to assist in the compatible matching of roommates and further selection of a room, building and/or campus location.

“The stAte Housing Portal is a very powerful tool designed to increase efficiency and responsiveness in the management of the room assignments process,” said Patrick Dixon, director of Residence Life.

The astAte Housing Portal will go live Jan. 17, 2011 and will include on-campus housing for Arkansas Hall, University Hall, Kays Hall, Collegiate Park, Red Wolf Den, Northpark Quad, Honors Living-Learning Community, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Den Living Learning Community, ROTC Living Learning Community, and The Village Apartments and Houses.

“This is one more area of customer service that Arkansas State University is providing to our student population,” said Dr. Rick Stripling, vice chancellor for Student Affairs. “This portal allows us to get away from the manual method of housing assignments and enables the student more freedom and involvement in the housing selection process. ASU now has over 3,000 students living on campus and the digital procedure is a quicker method of securing on-campus housing for them.”

All students, current and prospective, may utilize the astAte Housing Portal. Educational sessions regarding the use of the portal are available during January. There is also an application guide for portal use available at http://www2.astate.edu/student-affairs/reslife/.

For more information concerning the astAte housing portal, contact ASU’s Department of Residence Life at (870) 972-2042 or through e-mail at reslife@astate.edu.
