Dr. Gina Hogue receives 'You Made A Difference' annual academic advising award

Dec. 11, 2008 -- Dr. Gina Hogue, History, is the recipient of the 2008-2009 "You Made a Difference" academic advising award. Each fall, the Wilson Advising Center andDr. Gina Hogue, Department of History, is this year's recipient of the student-selected "You Made a Difference" award.ASU's Student Government Association co-sponsor an academic advising award to acknowledge deserving faculty members for outstanding advising. The "You Made a Difference" advising award is entirely student-nominated and student-selected. Criteria that the selection committee looks for includes understanding of university, college, and departmental regulations, policies, and procedures; use and dissemination of appropriate campus information sources; interest in working with advisees; availability to advisees; mentoring to encourage academic achievement; and effective interpersonal skills. Past recipients include Dr. LaQuita Saunders, Dr. Kevin Humphrey, Dr. Charlotte Skinner, and Dr. Veda McClain.

Andrea Huffine, a junior seeking the bachelor of science degree in Social Science, nominated Dr. Hogue, saying, she "has really made a difference in my life." Ms. Huffine aspires "to be the same type of educator; someone who not only teaches, but listens and gets to know her students and advisees."

Dr. Hogue came to ASU in 1997 and has proven to be an asset to the university. The Wilson Advising Center and Student Government Association are proud to honor her for outstanding service in advising and mentoring her students.
