ASU Ringers to perform
April 24
at Fowler Center

April 19, 2006 -- The Arkansas State University Ringers, a handbell choir directed by Dr. M. Ellis Julien, professor of music, will present a spring concert in Riceland Hall of Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive, on Monday, April 24, at 7:30 p.m.

The choir will be ringing five octaves of Schulmerich handbells and five octaves of Malmark handchimes.

Established in 1985, the ASU Ringers are a small ensemble open to members of the student body as well as to members of the faculty and the community. Although most of the students are music majors, several other academic majors are also represented. Over the past 11 years the Ringers have toured throughout the state of Arkansas and have presented concerts in Alabama, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee and Texas. This spring the tour included concerts in Memphis, Tenn.; Huntsville, Athens, and Tuscumbia, Ala.

On Saturday, April 29, the Ringers will attend the “Spring Ring” Handbell Festival at Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, where the guest clinician will be Cathy Moklebust.

The April 24 concert at Fowler Center will include “Reminiscence” by Phyllis Anschicks; “Ave Maria” by Bach/Gounod, arranged by Jane McFadden; “Cantad al Senor,” arranged by Hart Morris; “City as of Crystal” by former ASU Ringer, Paul Criss; “A Joyous Carillon” by C. William Goff; “On Eagle’s Wings” by Michael Joncas, arranged by Douglas Wagner; “Festive Praises” by Fred Gramann; “Reverie in G Minor” by Pam McGee; “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee” by Beethoven, arranged for piano by Joel Raney and arranged for handbells by Arnold Sherman; “Procession of Praise” and “Song of Remembrance,” both original compositions by Arnold Sherman; and “Serenity” by Douglas Smith.

Members of the choir include Andrew Bleignier and Dr. David Gilmore, professor of biology, both of Jonesboro; Mylie Brown of Walnut Ridge; Carly Gorman, Thomas Head (guitar), and Charles Pattison, all of Little Rock; Jennifer Hall of Tyronza; Ben Light (vocal soloist) of West Ridge; Justin Register, Caroline Sampson (flute and oboe), and Carolyn Smith (vocal soloist and assistant conductor), all of Huntsville, Ala.; Pat Register of Florence, Ala.; Nick Robbins of Manila; Jenny Shell of Evansville, Ind.; Jonathan Shields (vocal soloist) of Osceola; and Tara Skinner (flute) of Daytona Beach, Fla.
