ASU Choirs to present
concert of gospel music

Sept. 16, 2005 -- The Arkansas State University choirs will present a concert of gospel music at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at First Baptist Church of Jonesboro, 701 South Main St. in Jonesboro.

The choirs will be under the direction of Dr. Dale Miller, director of choral activities at ASU.

Part of the Choir Members Rehearse (click to access high-res version)proceeds from the concert will be used to raise money for the ASU Concert Choir’s upcoming concert tour to Eastern Europe.

Also, choir members recently voted to contribute a portion of the money raised at the concert to relief for the evacuees of Hurricane Katrina who are temporarily in residence here in Northeast Arkansas.

Admission will be $5 per person, and those displaced from the hurricane-affected areas will be admitted free. Tickets may be purchased in advance from any ASU choir member and will be available for purchase at the door.

ASU’s Concert Choir, Women’s Choir, Men’s Choir and Chamber Singers will each perform, and there will be soloists from the choirs. A group from First Baptist Church will also perform under the direction of Mark Grove, minister of music.

The Women’s Choir will perform two selections, “Go Down, Moses" by Mark Hayes, and “Jonah” by Rollo Dilworth, accompanied by Priscilla Noyes, senior piano major from Dexter, Mo.

The Men’s Choir, accompanied by Ellen Philpot, adjunct music department instructor, will sing “Heaven” by Andre Thomas, “Ain’t Got Time To Die” a spiritual arrangement by Philip Duey, and a barbershop setting of “This Little Light of Mine.”

The Chamber Singers will present a cappella version of “Jesus Loves Me.” The Concert Choir will end the evening with three numbers -- Robert Shaw’s version of “Amazing Grace,” and Moses Hogan’s arrangements of “Deep River” and “Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel.”
