May 9, 2005 -- The winners of Arkansas State University's 2005 Freshman Writing Competition were announced recently by Dr. Charles Carr, chair of the Department of English and Philosophy. Kellie Freeman Nelson of Harrisburg, a wildlife ecology and management major, won first place and a $100 prize. Drew Bullock of Beebe won second place and a $75 prize. His parents are Dale Bullock and Susan Babel. Jason Holder of Newport won third place and a prize of $50. His parents are Rick and Cindi Holder. Students must be nominated by their English Composition instructor to participate in the annual writing contest. Of the 1,497 ASU students who took English Composition in 2004-05, only 150 were nominated for the competition.
