Tammy Fowler promoted to
director of admissions

March 21, 2006 -- Tammy Fowler has been promoted to director of admissions at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, according to Dr. Rick Stripling vice chancellor for student affairs.

Fowler has served in several capacities, having worked at ASU since 1994. Most recently, she has served as interim director of admissions and executive assistant to the vice chancellor for student affairs, overseeing a $12 million budget and 14 departments. She has previously been interim co-director of admissions, an assistant to the vice chancellor, and director of testing. Prior to her service with ASU, Fowler worked at the Arkansas Department of Higher Education in Little Rock.

“Tammy has been exceptionally successful in providing leadership in many strategic areas of the undergraduate admission office. Over the past several months, she has led the successful conversion of the central computing system for student data. Tammy has coordinated and implemented a new web Internet portal for communicating with prospective students. In addition, a new admissions website has been developed and is now operational.

“Tammy developed and implemented a territory management program. She has expanded the efforts of the office to include a broader base of contacts with early indications that these efforts have been productive,” said Dr. Stripling.

As director of admissions, Fowler will be responsible for developing and implementing recruitment strategies to attract first-time freshmen and transfer students. In addition, she will be responsible for implementing the university’s undergraduate admissions policies.

Fowler holds two bachelor of science degrees as well as a master’s of public administration from ASU. She is currently working on her education specialist degree from ASU and serves on several university committees including the Centennial Commission.

She is a past member of the Arkansas Business and Professional Women, Jonesboro Business and Professional Women and the Crowley’s Ridge Girl Scout Council. She is a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, having served on the Vestry board and as treasurer. A Jonesboro native, Fowler graduated from Jonesboro High School.
She and her husband, Tony Fowler, have one son, Jack.
