Commencement list announced; nearly 700 graduates receive diplomas
Jan. 20, 2009 --
Nearly 700 graduates of Arkansas State University in
Jonesboro were awarded diplomas during fall 2008 commencement ceremonies
Saturday, Dec. 13, in the Convocation Center.
Included in the conferment of 679 diplomas were six doctoral degrees,
seven specialist degrees, and 164 masters degrees. A total of 373
students received bachelor degrees and 129 earned associate degrees.
Eleven students earned dual degrees.
Four students graduated summa cum laude with a 4.0 grade point average,
while 18 graduated magna cum laude with a grade point average from 3.80
to 3.99, and 22 students graduated cum laude with a grade point from
3.60 to 3.79. Three students graduated from the Honors Program.
Author Clay S. Jenkinson of Bismarck, N.D., was the featured speaker.
Jenkinson is a humanities scholar, author, and social commentator who
has devoted most of his professional career to public humanities
programs and is considered one of the most entertaining public speakers
in the United States.
