Retiring faculty members recognized
at Faculty Honors Convocation

April 11, 2006 -- Ten faculty members who are retiring this academic year were recognized today during the annual Faculty Honors Convocation for their longtime service to Arkansas State University.

Each of the 10 has taught at ASU for 10 years or more, and therefore were named to emeritus status in recognition of their contributions.

An individual tribute to each one was presented, highlighting the retiree’s accomplishments and contributions to the university. Each one also received a certificate of emeritus status.

Those recognized and their length of service at ASU were:

-- Mr. Ed Alexander, assistant professor of music and director of bands in the College of Fine Arts, 12 years.

-- Dr. Gerald Dickinson, professor of education in the College of Education, 15 years.

-- Dr. Michael Dougan, professor of history in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, 36 years.

-- Dr. David England, associate professor of political science in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, 22 years.

-- Dr. Charles Ford, professor of marketing in the College of Business, 37 years.

-- Dr. David Gillanders, professor of electrical engineering in the College of Engineering, 22 years.

-- Dr. Joe Horsley, assistant professor of marketing in the College of Business, 23 years.

-- Dr. Charles Joiner, chair, Department of Social Work, and associate professor of social work in the College of Nursing and Health Professions, 19 years.

-- Dr. Elizabeth Stokes, professor of nursing in the College of Nursing and Health Professions, 15 years.

-- Dr. Patricia Teddlie, chair, Department of Criminology, Sociology & Geography, and professor of sociology in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, 28 years.
