ASU Museum sponsors ‘In Our Own
Backyard: History in the Making’
Feb. 8, 2007 -- (Updated) In
recognition of Black History Month, on Saturday, Feb. 10 and
Tuesday, Feb. 27, the Arkansas State University
Museum is sponsoring “In Our Own Backyard: History
in the Making,” in Museum Room 182.
The program will feature two documentary films, both focusing on
historic events in small Arkansas Delta towns--Dr. Robert Franklin's
“Reconciliation and the Elaine, Arkansas Race Riot of 1919: Forgive or
Forget” and David Appleby's “Hoxie: The First Stand.”
On Tuesday, Feb. 27, Franklin's film will be shown at 2:30 p.m.,
while Appleby's film will be shown at 3:30 p.m.
At 1 p.m., Feb. 10, Dr. Robert Franklin’s “Reconciliation and the Elaine,
Arkansas Race Riot of 1919: Forgive or Forget” will be featured. This
award-winning film traces the history and legacy of the Elaine, Arkansas
race riot of 1919. Free popcorn and drinks will be served at
intermission.
At 2:30 p.m., Feb. 10, David Appleby’s “Hoxie: The First Stand” will be shown.
Appleby’s film tells the story of one town’s early efforts at
integration and the ensuing controversy.
Admission is free, and the running time for each film is one hour. For
