University/Community Chorus 2010 Italian tour offers information session March 17

March 9, 2009 -- On Tuesday, March 17, Dr. Daniel J. Reeves, dean of the Arkansas State University College of Fine Arts, and Dr. Dale Miller, director of choral activities, are hosting an information session for singers from northeast Arkansas, southeast Missouri, and west Tennessee interested in joining the University/Community Chorus for a performance tour to Rome and Florence, Italy, March 18-26, 2010. The 6:30 p.m. meeting, scheduled for room 210 in the ASU Fine Arts Center, will be presented by John Wiscombe, president of Music Celebrations International, who will provide details of sightseeing and performance experiences expected for the spring break 2010 trip.

ASU's University/Community Chorus on stage in Carnegie Hall, 2004.

The session is open to all current and former members of the ASU choral program, plus ASU 2009-2010 freshmen singers. In order to form a larger performing group, Miller is inviting additional singers from the mid-south to join the University/Community chorus.

The University/Community Chorus has performed 3 times under Miller’s direction in New York’s famed Carnegie Hall, and in several local performances, including the 2008 performance of Handel’s Messiah with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra.

While in Italy, the group will give four performances, one of which will be with a local choir. The highlight of the tour will be a performance at a mass or papal audience in St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican. The ASU/Community group will be visiting and performing in cities that possess a wealth of historical and cultural treasures.  Florence is known as the birthplace of the Renaissance, and Rome was the center of world culture for centuries.

Please call the ASU choral office, at (870) 972-3841, for further information.
