Department of Music to present
Concert Choir, University Singers in performance April 16
April 14, 2009 --
The Department of Music
at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro will present
the ASU Concert Choir and
University Singers in concert on Thursday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m. in
Riceland Hall, Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive, Jonesboro. Donations
will be accepted for the choir’s performance tour to Rome and Florence.
The ASU Concert Choir and University/Community Choir will present four
concerts in Rome and Florence in March 2010, including a mass in the
Vatican. The concert is free of charge and open to the public. For

The ASU Concert Choir and University Singers are
under the direction of Dr. Dale Miller, director of choral activities.
Musical selections for the Concert Choir include “Laudate Pueri” from
Solemn
Vespers by W.A.
Mozart and “River in Judea” by John Leavitt, conducted by graduate conducting
assistant Janet Tullos, “O Schone Nacht,” a quartet by Johannes Brahms,
conducted by graduate conducting assistant Patrick Manes, “Agnus Dei,” a
vocal arrangement
of the Samuel Barber “Adagio for Strings,” and “Music Down in My Soul”
by Moses Hogan, both conducted by Dr. Miller. The ASU Concert Choir is
accompanied by Luca Strazzullo, ASU adjunct piano instructor.
Musical selections for the University Singers Men’s
Choir include “Die Nacht” by Franz Schubert and “Silhouettes” arranged
by Tom Gentry, both conducted by Patrick Manes, “Lost in the Stars” by
M. Anderson and K. Weill, arranged by W. Haeger, conducted and edited by
Men’s Choir president Nick Robbins, senior vocal music education major,
“Let All Men Sing” by Keith Christopher, “Ave verum Corpus” by W. A.
Mozart, arranged by Brazilian composer Adrian Cuello Piraquibis, and
“Under the Boardwalk” arranged by the Society for the Preservation and
Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America, all conducted by
Dr. Dale Miller. The University Singers Men’s Choir is accompanied by
Bryan Henkelmann, Organist, First United Methodist Church, Jonesboro.
Musical selections for the University Singers Women’s Choir include
“Schlof Main Kind,” a Yiddish Lullaby by Allan E. Naplan, which will
feature soloist Mollie Black, and “Yo le Canto todo el Dia” by David
Brunner,” both conducted by Janet Tullos, graduate conducting assistant,
“Across the Bridge of Hope,” a setting by Jan Sandstrom of an Irish poem
for peace, featuring soloist Rebeckah Morrison, “Spring” by John T. Edel,
featuring oboist Katie Fischer, “A Joyful Gloria” by Earlene Rentz, “All
My Lovin’,” a Beatles tune arranged for
women’s
barbershop by June Berg, and Elvis Presley’s “Love Me Tender,” also
arranged for women’s barbershop by Norma Anderson, all conducted by Dr.
Miller. The University Singers Women’s Choir is accompanied by Willie
Sullivan, Junior Vocal Performance Major at ASU.
