Alumni Association to accept nominations  for Distinguished Alumni awards through May 1

April 17, 2009 -- Nominations will be accepted through Friday, May 1 for the ASU Alumni Association's annual Distinguished Alumni awards. Now in its 26^th year, the awards honor A-State alumni who have excelled professionally, in their communities, and through service to ASU. Recipients are selected from nominations submitted by alumni, friends of the university, and the general public.

The Distinguished Alumni presentation ceremony will be held at halftime of the Homecoming football game on Saturday, Oct. 24. (The Homecoming date has been changed to Oct. 24 as the 2009 football schedule has been modified.) A printable Distinguished Alumni nomination form is available online at http://www.astatealumni.org.

Last year’s honorees were Rosalie Barber of Jonesboro, a community leader; business executive Bob Earwood of Collierville, Tennessee; Maj. Gen. Elder Granger of Fort Belvoir, Virginia, deputy director of the healthcare provider for the military; and J. Steven McFerron of Jonesboro, a banker and civic leader.

Since 1984, the Alumni Association’s board of directors annually selects award recipients from nominations submitted by alumni, friends of the university, and the general public. Selection of nominees is based on community service, professional achievement, and service to ASU.
