Department of Nursing announces
2007 disaster-related training course dates

Feb. 9, 2007 -- The Arkansas State University Department of Nursing's Regional Training Center for Disaster Life Support announced their 2007 disaster-related training course schedule.

The center offers two training courses: Basic Disaster Life Support (BDLS) and Advance Disaster Life Support (ADLS).

BDLS is a review of all hazards, including natural and accidental man-made events, traumatic and explosive events, nuclear and radiological events, and chemical events. The course also includes a review of M.A.S.S. (move, assess, sort, and send) Triage and "ID-Me" (identification system). Course dates for BDLS are Feb. 16, July 23, Sept. 14, and Oct. 5.

ADLS is an advanced practicum course with training focused on the development of hands-on skills to allow participants to apply the knowledge learned in BDLS. Participants must complete BDLS before taking this course. ADLS course dates are March 9-10 and Nov. 2-3.

All classes begin at 8 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. with lunch being provided. Registration fees are $90 for BDLS and $200 for ADLS, with discounts for ASU students with valid ID. Registration is required.

Participants will receive 7.5 CME’s or 7.5 continuing education units from ASU Department of Nursing, an approved provider of continuing education by the Arkansas Nurses Association. The Arkansas Nurses Association is an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission of Accreditation.
