March 14, 2005--Arkansas State University in Jonesboro will host Delta Promise Day on Monday, April 4, for qualified high school seniors who reside in one of the designated 42 counties of the Delta region in Arkansas.

Qualified students will be awarded a one-time $1,500 Academic Merit Scholarship if selected to attend Delta Promise Day at ASU. Letters were mailed to approximately 175 counselors earlier this month seeking student recommendations for Delta Promise Day.

To qualify, students must:

Delta Promise Day will begin with registration at 9 a.m. in the new Student Union, Center Court. Activities will include morning programs, campus tours, student discussion panels and an academic presentation. Delta Promise Day will conclude with lunch and an awards ceremony ending at approximately 1 p.m.

All of the qualified students who attend will receive the $1,500 scholarship, but must be recommended by their school counselor. And, those who qualify will be able to move up to the Dean’s Scholarship and the Chancellor’s Scholarship which both provide even more substantial awards.

The 42 designated Delta counties are Arkansas, Ashley, Baxter, Bradley, Calhoun, Chicot, Clay, Cleveland, Craighead, Crittenden, Cross, Dallas, Desha, Drew, Fulton, Grant, Greene, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Jefferson, Lawrence, Lee, Lincoln, Lonoke, Marion, Mississippi, Monroe, Ouachita, Phillips, Poinsett, Prairie, Pulaski, Randolph, Searcy, Sharp, Stone, St. Francis, Union, Van Buren, White and Woodruff.
