Delta Bridge Education Project
attracts 91 students from region

Ninety-one 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students from the Delta regions of Arkansas recently completed a two-week literacy and technology camp at Arkansas State University, sponsored by the Delta Bridge Education Project.

The project is part of a collaborative effort between Arkansas State University, the University of Memphis, and the University of Mississippi. The goal is to improve teacher and student academic preparation in the Delta and is funded by the U. S. Department of Education.

Using a curriculum that has been aligned with the Arkansas Benchmarks, students received instruction in reading content area materials, essay and paragraph writing, and using technology for literacy purposes.

Campers also participated in extra-curricular activities such as chess lessons, African dance and drumming, lessons in etiquette, and career decision-making. They made trips to Little Rock and Memphis to visit the Clinton Presidential Library and the National Civil Rights Museum.
