Faculty Honors Convocation, retirement
recognition, scheduled for April 9
April 1, 2008 --The
Faculty Honors Convocation at Arkansas State University-Jonesboro will
be held Wednesday, April 9, from 3:30 - 5 p.m. in the Grand Hall of
Fowler Center.
Activities will include the recognition of retiring faculty, the
presentation of Faculty Achievement awards, and the presentation of the
Outstanding Advising award. The event is free and open to the public.

Retiring faculty (in alphabetical order) are:
Mr. Richard Carvell, assistant professor of radio/television in the
College of Communications. His retirement will be effective June 30
after 37 years of teaching. Carvell was appointed assistant professor in
1988 but came to ASU as an instructor in 1972.
Ms.
Glenda Coppedge, instructor in English
in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, will be recognized
subsequent to her retirement last Dec. 31. She was appointed in 1995,
and served ASU for 12 years.
Dr. Scott Darwin, professor of German in the College of Humanities and
Social Sciences, will retire on May 15 after 39 years of teaching. He
was appointed to the ASU faculty in 1969.
Mr. John Keech, professor of art in the College of Fine Arts, will
retire on May 15 after 40 years of teaching, having been appointed in
1968.
Ms. Julia Lansford, associate professor of music in the College of Fine
Arts, will retire on May 15 after 44 years of teaching. She was
appointed in 1964.
Dr. Ross Marlay, professor of political science in the College of
Humanities and Social Sciences, retires on May 15 after being appointed
in 1975 and serving for 33 years.
Dr.
Rick McDaniel, senior associate vice chancellor for academic affairs and
professor of zoology, announced his retirement last November, effective
on January 2, 2008. He officially served ASU for 35.5 years, joining the
university in
1972.
Dr. Stephen Replogle, professor of computer science, information and
technology in the College of Business, will retire effective July 1
after 38 years of service since his appointment in 1970.
Dr. J. Marlin Shipman, professor of journalism in the College of
Communications, retired on Dec. 15, 2007. He served A-State for 26 years
since his appointment in 1981.
Dr. Robert P. Smith, associate professor of mathematics and computer
science in the College of Sciences and Mathematics, retires on May 15 after 39
years of service, having joined ASU in 1969.
Dr. Norman Stafford, professor of English in the College of Humanities
and Social Sciences, retires on May 15 after 31 years of teaching,
having joined ASU in 1977.
Dr. Herman Strickland, dean of University College and associate
professor of teacher education, retired on January 2. He joined the
university in 1972, and served ASU for 35.5 years.
The
Faculty Awards Convocation is hosted by the
Office of Academic Affairs
and Research to celebrate the achievements of ASU-Jonesboro's
