Commencement set for May 6
with two ceremonies
April 27, 2006 -- Arkansas State University in
Jonesboro will hold spring commencement Saturday, May 6, with one
ceremony at 10 a.m. and another at 2 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
The morning ceremony will include the Colleges of Agriculture, Business,
Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Science and
Mathematics. Mr. James Bishop of Weiner, recipient of the R.E. Lee
Wilson Award for 2005-06, will be the speaker for the morning
commencement.
The afternoon commencement will include the Colleges of Communications,
Education, Fine Arts, Nursing and Health Professions, the University
College and Regional Programs. Ms. Candace Martin of Jonesboro, outgoing
SGA president, will be the speaker for the afternoon commencement.
Dr. Les Wyatt, president of ASU, will present the various diplomas. The
Registrar’s Office has listed 1,130 students as candidates for degrees
at both the graduate and undergraduate level. Of that number, eight are
for doctoral degrees, 188 are for graduate degrees, and 934 are for
undergraduate degrees.
The College of Education and the College of Nursing and Health
Professions contain nearly half of the students graduating, with 217
candidates in nursing and health professions and 205 candidates in
education.
The Military Science Department will hold their commissioning ceremony
on Friday, May 5, from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. at the National Guard Armory.
A reception for all graduates, their guests, and faculty and staff will
be held on the north mezzanine following the commencement ceremonies.
Everyone is invited to attend.
