Community chorus forming to go to Carnegie Hall

April 12, 2007 -- A community chorus from the Jonesboro area is being formed to participate in the Arkansas State University Singers’ January 13, 2008 performance in New York’s famed Carnegie Hall.  Auditions will be held Monday and Tuesday, April 23-24, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in Room 119 of the ASU Fine Arts Center. The group will be under the direction of ASU Director of Choral Activities, Dr. Dale Miller. The work to be performed is “Dona Nobis Pacem” by Ralph Vaughan Williams, and singers will be accompanied in New York by the New England Symphonic Ensemble. The group will be joined in New York and in a Jonesboro performance by choir members from ASU, Valley View High School, and Harrisburg High School, and accompanied by members of the ASU Concert Orchestra in the Jonesboro performance November 15.

Residency in New York will be January 10-14, 2008, and the cost will be approximately $1460 for quad-occupancy hotel, airfare, New York Harbor dinner-dance, music, and concert management. Interested singers should contact Dr. Miller at 972-3841 for the audition, and pay a $200 deposit by May 15.

Rehearsals will be held in the spring semester on Mondays from 6:00-8:00 p.m., beginning August 27. Participants will be expected to attend all rehearsals and performances. Performance attire will be tuxedos for men and long black dress (or black blouse and long black skirt) for women.
