Education Faculty present at Arkansas Early Childhood Education conference

Nov. 14, 2007 -
- Seven faculty members from the College of Education's department of Teacher Education recently attended the Arkansas Early Childhood Association's annual conference in Hot Springs, where they made presentations.

Ms. Nancy Bacot, Early Childhood Education, made two presentations, "Behavior Guidance: Who Owns the Problem?" and "Using Children's Literature to Facilitate Language, Literacy, and Understanding of the Aged," which she co-presented with Dr. Beverly Gilbert, Elementary Education, and Dr. Lina Owens, Reading Education.

Dr. Tonya Fillippino, Middle Level Education, also made two presentations, "Literacy Activities for School-Aged Children," and "Consistent Lesson Plans among Pre-Service Teacher Educators."

Dr. Patricia Murphy, Literacy, presented "Understanding and Implementing Family Literacy."

Dr. Lina Owens and Dr. Diana Williams, Elementary Education, presented "SPARKS: Igniting Quality Reading Choices."

Dr. Joanna Grymes, Early Childhood Education, along with Drs. Owens and Williams, presented "Using Easily Accessible Technology to Create Books for Your Classroom."

Dr. Beverly Gilbert made two additional presentations, "Daddy Day Care: Creating a Paradigm Shift to Enhance the Quality of Life for All Children," and "Capitalizing on the Quality of Uniqueness: Embracing and Respecting Differences." Dr. Gilbert and Dr. Owens also made another presentation, "Using Literature to Promote Concepts of Knowledge, Justice, and Equity."
