College of Business announces winners of 2009 Business Plan competition

Nov. 17, 2009 -- "Hometownonlinemarket.com" (HOM), an online grocery shop that provides time-saving and cost effective solutions to the grocery shopping experience, captured first place in the Arkansas State University 2009 College of Business Plan Competition during final oral presentations, Monday, Nov. 16.

The team, which won a monetary prize of $500 for its entry, includes members Charlene Chambers, Jeff Craig, Andy Hall, Courtney Lloyd, and Rebecca Kee.



Five business plans advanced to the finals with oral presentations Monday, Nov. 16, in the new Delta Center for Economic Development, 319 University Loop West, on the ASU-Jonesboro campus.

A total of 39 students submitted 10 undergraduate plans, including six from ASU-Jonesboro and four from ASU-Beebe, for review by judges from the College of Business. Judges narrowed the group to five finalists who delivered presentations to a new panel of judges. $250 and $125 will be given to the top three plans.

A second-place cash prize of $250 was awarded to "ThePoliticalFacts.com", a social networking website that generates advertising revenues by providing information on state and local politicians. Team members include Elizabeth Sewell, Ashley Parchman, Zachary Roberson, and Ryan Hames.

The Southern Boy Bakery, a bakery that will provide the Jonesboro area with a place to get freshly baked products, elaborate specialty cakes, and provide good service, finished third and won $125. Team members are Rachel Carroll, Joseph Deken, Scott Hunter, and Jennifer McGinnis.
