College of Agriculture and Technology to hold study tour information session

Feb. 25, 2009 -- The College of Agriculture and Technology at Arkansas State University is planning an Agricultural and Environmental Study tour to Costa Rica, Monday-Sunday, May 11-17. The cost will be between $1500 and $1700, not including tuition (graduate or undergraduate). An information session regarding this trip will be held on Monday, March 9, at 12 noon in the Choctaw Room of the ASU Student Union, 101 N. Caraway Road, Jonesboro.

The tentative plans are to visit several farms and plantations, including livestock and swine farms, banana, coffee, and sugar plantations/cooperatives, a butterfly farm, botanical gardens, the
Centro Agronómico Tropical de Investigación y Enseñanza (CATIE) Agricultural Research Facilities, the Livestock School of Central America, two high school agricultural programs, and the University of Costa Rica agricultural experiment station. The group will also visit a number of sites, including a volcano and waterfalls, and will also have a tour of a rainforest. Dr. David Agnew, associate professor of agricultural education and career/technical education, is the tour’s leader.

The exact cost has not yet been established, but it is expected to be between $1500 and $1750. To reserve a slot, submit a check,
made out to the ASU-College of Agriculture and Technology, for $1600 to Dr. David Agnew in the Agriculture Building, Room 220. The College of Agriculture and Technology is located at 119 S. Caraway Road, Jonesboro. This will include airfare to Costa Rica, lodging, most of the meals, transportation while in Costa Rica, and exit tax. Any differences will be addressed prior to departure. A passport is necessary, but no shots are required for this trip.
