Chili's of Jonesboro helps ASU scholarship
fund

July 29, 2009 -- Albert Gonzalez, manager of Chili's at 1900 Stadium Boulevard in Jonesboro, has presented a check for $350 to the Arkansas State University book scholarship fund sponsored by the ASU Alumni Association. On Tuesday, July 28, alumni relations director Pat Edwards accepted the check, which was donated from the proceeds of "ASU Day" at Chili's on July 7.

Due to the success of the July event, Chili's has scheduled two back-to-back ASU Days at the restaurant in August. On Monday-Tuesday, Aug. 3-4, Chili's will donate 10

percent of the amount of meal checks to ASU's book scholarship fund for all guests who present the special flyer. The offer is good all day on this coming Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 3-4. The flyer can be printed from the ASU Alumni Association website at
www.astate.alumni.org.

"We are very happy to partner with Chili's on this great project,” said Edwards. “It's an easy way for people to have a good time at Chili's in Jonesboro, enjoy a great meal and help ASU students at the same time, with no additional cost to the people who participate. Thanks to Al Gonzalez and Chili's, we have been able to establish a book scholarship program. With the price of textbooks going through the roof, especially in fields like nursing, a book scholarship will be very helpful to assist the students in getting their degree.

“Then, when the student graduates, their degree will benefit the entire community. So it's kind of like 'paying it forward.' We were thrilled with the turnout in July, and we appreciate Al Gonzales and Chili's for extending the offer to two days in August. They've been great to work with. We hope to keep it going throughout the year. It's just great all the way around."

Albert Gonzalez, manager of Chili's Jonesboro says, "ASU and the Jonesboro community have been very supportive of our Chili's restaurant.  They've made us one of the top Chili's in the country. This is a wonderful way to give back to the community and to say 'thanks.'"
