Central Mississippi Valley Archeological Society presents Dr. Jamie Brandon, Nov. 6

Nov. 4, 2008 -- The Central Mississippi Valley Archaeological Survey (CMVAS) will host a lecture by Dr. Jamie Brandon, Arkansas Archeological Survey station archeologist at Southern Arkansas University. The lecture "Why do we dig up the recent past?" will be held on Thursday, Nov. 6, 7 p.m., in the ASU Museum, Room 182. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Dr. Brandon received his PhD from the University of Texas at Austin, his MA from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, and his BA from the University of Memphis. He is the co-owner and moderator of the African-American Archeology Listserv, an online group for the discussion of archeology of the African diaspora in the New World. He is the co-editor of Household Chores, Household Choices: Theorizing the Domestic Sphere in Historical Archeology (University of Alabama Press, 2004) and has authored several scholarly articles appearing in Historical Archaeology, Arkansas Archeologist, Mississippi Archaeology, and the Tennessee Anthropologist.
