Student organization Brother 2 Brother holds Talent Showcase March 1 to benefit scholarship fund

Feb. 25, 2010 -- An Arkansas State University student organization, Brother 2 Brother, will host a non-competitive Talent Showcase set for 8 p.m.- 10  p.m., Monday, March 1, in the Reng Student Services Center/Student Union Auditorium, 101 N. Caraway Road, Jonesboro. Brother 2 Brother is a student organization designed to increase retention and graduation rates among African-American male students by providing African-American male students with a nurturing environment, academic support, character development and community service opportunities.

Faculty, staff, students, and the public are all invited to enjoy some of the finest talent on the campus of Arkansas State University. The showcase will highlight spoken word poetry, interpretative dance, singing, rap, and other musical talents. All proceeds from the Talent Showcase will help provide scholarships for Brother 2 Brother members.

“The young men of Brother 2 Brother have been extremely active this academic year and I am very proud of their efforts. The motto for Brother 2 Brother is ‘Achieving and Succeeding Together,’ and when these young men recognized that some of their members could really benefit from book scholarships, they decided to take action. This exemplifies the meaning of Brother 2 Brother,” stated Melanie Richardson, Diversity Fellow for ASU’s Office of Diversity Initiatives.

Tickets are $5 and can be purchased in the Student Union on Wednesday, Feb. 24, Friday, Feb. 26, and Monday, March 1, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. or in room 114 of the Administration Building.
