ASU professors receive quality
assurance certification from AdvancED
Nov. 12, 2007 --
Two
Arkansas State University professors, Dr. John Beineke, dean of the
College of Education, and Dr. Don Maness, associate dean of the College
of Education, recently completed training to become Quality Assurance
Review (QAR) Team Chairs for AdvancED. All AdvancED certified chairs go
through a rigorous training process, in which trainees complete a
four-module training course sponsored by AdvancED.
AdvancED is the unified organization of the North Central Association
Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI), the
Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation
and School Improvement (SACS CASI), and the National Study of School
Evaluation (NSSE). AdvancED is dedicated to advancing excellence in
education through accreditation, research, and professional services.
AdvancED provides accreditation, research, and professional services to
23,000 public and private schools and 4,500 school districts in 30
states and 65 countries. AdvancED engages 18,000 volunteers and touches
the lives of nearly 15 million students each year. ASU is accredited by
the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School
Improvement (NCA CASI), an accreditation division of AdvancED. NCA CASI
is a non-governmental, voluntary association of public and private
elementary and secondary schools in 19 states, the Navajo Nation, and
the worldwide Department of Defense Education Activity.
As certified chairs, Drs. Beineke and Maness will lead QAR teams and
facilitate QAR visits to schools and districts seeking AdvancED
accreditation. A QAR Visiting Team’s responsibility is to evaluate a
school’s or district’s adherence to accreditation standards, assess
effectiveness of continuous improvement efforts, provide high-quality
feedback from the review, and finally, make accreditation
recommendations. Dr. Maness will be serving on a South Carolina team
later in November.
