Department of Music to present opera production, 'The Bartered Bride'

Feb. 16, 2007--The Department of Music at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro will present “The Bartered Bride” by Bedrich Smetana, under the direction of Julia Lansford, music and stage director, Dr. Neal Bartee, orchestra director, and Joy Sanford, piano rehearsal accompanist, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 9, and Saturday, March 10, at Fowler Center.

“The Bartered Bride” is a comic opera in three acts written by the Czech composer Smetana, with libretto by Karel Sabina.

The cast includes Keith Westbrook of Benton, Patricia Register of Florence, Ala., Cassie Black of Searcy, Patrick Manes of Bryant, Crystal Stormes of Brookland, Justin Register of Huntsville, Ala., Jonathan Shields of Jonesboro, Andrew Kjorlaug of Paragould, Joshua Dennis of Springfield, Mo., Brandon Stroud of Jonesboro, Molly Emerson of Jonesboro, Kristi Freeman of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Angela Jackson of Naylor, Mo., Kari Rickman of Jonesboro, Renee Porter of Houston, Texas, Mary Katherine Ragland of Jonesboro, Natalie Gregory of Jonesboro, Morgan Fincher of Jonesboro, Susan Hulett of Mountain Home, Caroline Haag of Jonesboro, Matt Vardell of Jonesboro, Nic Robbins of Manila, Ben Light of West Ridge, Josh Pemberton of Kennett, Mo., and Geremy Lloyd of Jonesboro.
