New associate deans in Agriculture,
Engineering, and Sciences & Mathematics

Three faculty members at Arkansas State University are now filling new responsibilities as associate deans of their respective academic colleges, announced Dr. Greg Phillips, dean of the Colleges of Agriculture, Engineering, and Sciences and Mathematics.

"I am pleased to have three such capable individuals providing leadership for the respective colleges," he said.  "It is important to have an associate dean in each college who will manage the curriculum and scholarship activities and who is intimately familiar with the unique needs of each college."

Dr. Kim Pittcock, associate dean of the College of Agriculture, "
. . . has provided key leadership on several curriculum related committees in that college and her experience will help to maintain the high standards of the college in her role as associate dean," Phillips continued.

Pittcock, who completed her doctoral degree at Texas Tech University, joined the ASU faculty in 1998.

Dr. Rick Clifft, associate dean of the College of Engineering, has been leading that college since the untimely passing of the previous dean, Dr. Al Mink.  "Dr. Clifft's experience is invaluable to the college in his new role as associate dean," the dean said.

Clifft came to ASU in 1980.  He completed his doctoral degree at the University of Houston.

Dr. Jerry L. Farris is associate dean of the College of Sciences and Mathematics.  Phillips commented, "Dr. Farris has been providing leadership for the Environmental Sciences Graduate Programs for the past several years, and he brings a wealth of administrative experience into his new position."

Farris, who completed his doctoral degree at Virginia Tech, joined the faculty in 1992.

The associate deans, department chairs and graduate program directors have begun to meet regularly as a group to develop new initiatives across the three colleges, Phillips added, as well as to promote programmatic issues within their respective units.
