April 28, 2005 -- The most outstanding graduates of the College of Agriculture at Arkansas State University were recently recognized at the college’s annual honors banquet during Convocation of Scholars, according to Dr. Greg Phillips, dean of the College of Agriculture. The outstanding graduate awards were presented to the senior in each degree program who has excelled in scholarship, leadership and service to the respective departments. Those receiving awards were: Elisabeth A. Howell of Cave City, agricultural business (emphasis in agricultural economics emphasis); John Ray Dern of Koshkonong, Mo., agricultural education; Jaclyn Lasha McCollum of Melbourne, animal science (emphasis in pre-veterinary science); Matthew Crockett Smith of Walnut Ridge, general agriculture; and Crystal Southerland of Concord, plant science (emphasis in environmental horticulture). # # # Localizing information for hometown news media: John Dern's parents are Ray and Bridgett Dern of Koshkonong, Mo.
