ASU Summer Children's Theatre ends 2008 season with 'Jack and the Bean Stalk'

July 10, 2008 -- The Arkansas State University Theatre will close the 2008 ASU Summer Children’s Theatre Season with “Jack and the Bean Stalk,” dramatized by William Glennon. This classic tale comes to life with rhymes, song, dance, magic beans, and lots of audience participation. The audience of all ages can join Jack, the Giant, and the Golden Harp for lots of fun.

Under the stage direction of Molly Simpson, professor of theatre, the cast for the season opening production includes Meredith Hendrix, a sophomore theatre major from Jonesboro; Aleigha Morton, a sophomore theatre major from Searcy; Ahazahdeh Neshat, a sophomore theatre major from Jonesboro; Morgan Henard, a junior theatre major from Brinkley; Amanda LaRue, a senior theatre major from Heber Springs; Aaron Beale, a junior theatre major from Sherwood; Ben Gibson, a senior theatre major from Jacksonville; Lauren Emerson, a senior theatre major from Jonesboro; and Donnie Walters, a senior theatre major from Trumann.

The production design team includes scenic design and technical direction by Jeff McLaughlin, assistant professor of theatre, costume design by Laura Perkins, temporary instructor of theatre, and lighting design by Bob Simpson, professor of theatre. Amy Penny, a junior theatre major from Jonesboro, will serve as stage manager.

Performance dates are Wednesday, July 23, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; Thursday, July 24 at at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; and Friday, July 25, at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.

This production of “Jack and the Bean Stalk” is sponsored by the Golden Grotto. Scholarships for the ASU Summer Children’s Theatre Company are provided by the ASU Theatre Guild, a volunteer group dedicated to the growth and development of theatre at Arkansas State University.

All performances will be held at Fowler Center on the ASU campus. All seating is reserved, and tickets for reserved seating may be purchased in advance at the ASU Central Box Office in the Convocation Center or by calling 972-ASU1. Tickets are also available online at tickets.astate.edu. Reserved seating tickets (if available) may be purchased at the door on the day of the performance. Ticket prices for ASU Theatre's Summer Children's Theatre performances are $5 in advance and $6 at the door. Purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended.
