ASU Summer Children's Theatre announces cast for 'Aladdin'

July 8, 2009 -- The Arkansas State University Theatre announces the cast for its second presentation of the 2009 Summer Children’s Theatre season, “Aladdin,” by Robert Neil Porter, with music and lyrics by Jack Perry. This show, full of adventure and fun, relates the story of Aladdin, a poor boy who discovers a magic lamp, and with the aid of the genie of the lamp, wins the hand of a lovely princess, despite trouble from an evil magician, whom Aladdin bests with the help of the remarkable Tiger Lily.



All performances will be held at Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive, Jonesboro. Performance dates are Wednesday, July 29, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; Thursday, July 30, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; and Friday, July 31, at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.  This production of “Aladdin” is sponsored by the Golden Grotto and ASU Theatre Guild, a community support group of the ASU Theatre program.

Under the stage direction of Molly Simpson, professor of Theatre, the cast for Aladdin includes Matt Morgan, a sophomore theatre major from Jonesboro, as the Genie; Annie Clark, a freshman theatre major from Paragould, as Princess Jasmine; Cesiley Sullivan, a sophomore theatre major from Cabot, as Balmyra; Lauren Emerson, a senior theatre major from Jonesboro, as Amber; James Kaut, a junior theatre major from Jonesboro, as Tareye The Terrible; Michael Trevino, a sophomore theatre major from Jonesboro, as Turkish Magician; Ashlea Armstrong, a sophomore theatre major from Searcy, as Aladdin’s Mother; Josue Pollnow, a sophomore theatre minor from Little Rock, as Tiger Lily; Ben Griffin, a sophomore theatre major from Benton, as Aladdin; Morgan Henard, a senior theatre major from Brinkley, as the Sultan; and Elizabeth Pius, a sophomore theatre major from Nigeria, as the Sultana.

The production design team includes scenic design and technical direction by Jeff McLaughlin, assistant professor of Theatre, costume design by Brent Foland, assistant professor of Theatre, and lighting design by Bob Simpson, professor of Theatre. Amy Penny, a senior theatre major from Jonesboro, will serve as stage manager.

All seating is reserved, and tickets for reserved seating may be purchased in advance at the ASU Central Box Office in the Convocation Center or by calling 972-ASU1. Tickets are also available online at http://www2.astate.edu/tickets/--click the ticket icon or the tickets tab in the menu bar.  Reserved seating tickets (if available) may be purchased at the door on the evening of the performance. Ticket prices for ASU Theatre’s 2009 Summer Children’s Theatre performances are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended.
